NEW YORK (Feb. 2021) – Lyft, Inc. (LYFT) announced Thursday it is partnering with BronxWorks to make it a little easier for the victims of last month’s fire in The Bronx and their families as they navigate this tragedy.
BronxWorks is providing case management and other support services to the families affected by the fire that killed 17 people, including eight children, and injured dozens of others on January 9th. Lyft’s assistance is expected to give 100 families the convenience of transportation to BronxWorks, where they can access much-needed services.
“Lyft extends its deepest condolences to the families and survivors of the Bronx fire and cannot think of a better partner than BronxWorks to help provide additional support to impacted families,” said David Zogo, Lyft Community Organizer.
“We appreciate Lyft’s partnership and support for our Bronx neighbors who have been through so much,” said Eileen Torres, Executive Director, BronxWorks. “Our goal is to provide the necessary support services to the families who experienced tremendous loss. We have found Lyft to be a reliable and committed partner in providing a vital resource to the community.”
“The Bronx is still shaken by the devastating fire our borough experienced on January 9th, and the affected families are still struggling to recover. It is a long road ahead, but every bit of generosity helps the victims get back on their feet. Lyft’s assistance with free transportation to BronxWorks will help the families access necessary case management and social services, and will ease some of the commuting difficulties. We thank Lyft for their partnership and support during this extremely difficult time for our community,” said Rep. Ritchie Torres (NY-15).
“It was only a month ago that the residents at Twin Parks Northwest and our borough experienced a horrific tragedy,” said Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson.” “We have been working since then alongside our partners on the federal, state and local level to ensure the families receive wraparound services and this new announcement by Lyft will make it even easier for the impacted families to receive the assistance that they need. Thank you to Lyft, BronxWorks, CVR and all of our other partners for their work in providing much-needed services during this time.”
“It is going to take a committed and unified effort to continue supporting the families impacted by the Bronx fire. I am thankful to Lyft for making this commitment and standing with us in helping the victims of the Bronx fire recover, and move forward,” said Council Member Oswald Feliz (NY-15).
