As we enter the final days of this year’s election, The Lincoln Project is today announcing a collaborative effort with the NAACP, National Urban League, Black Economic Alliance, and BlackPAC to combine their efforts on mobilizing Black voter turnout in what is undoubtedly one of the most consequential elections in modern American history.

On Monday, October 26 at 7 PM ET, the five organizations will hold a virtual town hall that will bring together Black voices from across the political spectrum to urge Black Americans to get out the vote.

Speakers will include Philadelphia 76ers’ Head Coach Doc Rivers, Executive Director of the Black Economic Alliance David Clunie, President of the NAACP Derrick Johnson, President of the National Urban League Marc Morial, Executive Director of BlackPAC Adrianne Shropshire, and Lincoln Project Senior Advisors Tara Setmayer and Michael Steele.

You can view the town hall RSVP link here.

For over 100 years, the NAACP has been working to turn priorities into policies and has been a stalwart leader in securing voting rights for people of color. Founded in 1909 in response to the ongoing violence against Black people around the country, the NAACP is the largest and most pre-eminent civil rights organization in the nation. With over 2,200 units and branches across the nation, the NAACP’s mission is to secure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights in order to eliminate race-based discrimination and ensure the health and well-being of all persons.

The Black Economic Alliance is a non-partisan group of business leaders and supporters committed to driving economic progress for the Black community through public policy, advocacy, and engagement with government and business leaders, and is a crucial partner in bringing together Black voices from across the political spectrum.

The National Urban League (NUL) has been serving the Black community for over 100 years through a national network of affiliates in 300 communities across 37 states and the District of Columbia. As a historic civil rights organization, the NUL’s goal is to help African-American and other underserved communities achieve the highest true social parity — a mission that can only be accomplished through boosting these communities’ ability to vote.

BlackPAC, an independent, Black-led organization whose mission is to engage the Black community in year-round civic engagement, brings a solid track record of galvanizing voters to the table. Since 2016, they’ve engaged over 15 million Black voters across 14 states, galvanizing Black communities to the polls to elect Governors, Lt. Governors, Attorneys General, US Senators, US House members, and State Legislators. BlackPAC is committed to long-term, sustained engagement with Black voters through building lasting political infrastructure.

Former RNC Chairman and Senior Advisor to the Lincoln Project Michael Steele commented, “As RNC Chairman, it was my goal to bring together differing viewpoints within the party using a framework of unity and growth, which included developing a stronger relationship with my community. This coalition has come together to amplify the collective power of Black voters to demand that our elected leaders include communities of color in every part of American life. It’s important to engage with leaders who take seriously the concerns of communities of color and are willing to listen and act on our behalf.”

“The BEA is proud to partner with The Lincoln Project, our sister organizations in the ongoing fight for racial equity, and patriots from all points on the political spectrum, in the effort to achieve equity for Black Americans,” said David Clunie, Executive Director of the Black Economic Alliance. “We’re arming voters with the information to overcome the obstacles placed between them and the ballot box, and stand inspired by the millions of voters who have already executed voting plans and the millions prepared to follow suit between now and November 3rd. We’re poised to show up in record numbers this year, and after this election, we will hold our elected leaders accountable to make America greater than it’s ever been—for Black people, and for every American.”

Demonstrating the Black community’s power as a voting bloc is a key objective of this unprecedented alliance. The Lincoln Project is proud to be working with the NAACP, Black Economic Alliance, National Urban League, and BlackPAC to ensure that necessary change comes to fruition on November 3rd.
