The Lehman College School of Continuing and Professional Services’ Bronx Tech Incubator at CUNY on the Concourse has been awarded a $100,000 Verizon Foundation Workforce Development grant to develop and launch an innovative, two-year emerging technology mentorship program for 250 veteran-owned and minority- and women-owned small businesses through CUNY schools across the five boroughs.

On January, 8, there will be a press conference to announce a partnership between The City University of New York’s (CUNY’s) Lehman College and the Verizon Foundation to launch an emerging technology mentoring program in emerging technology for veteran-owned, and minority- and women-owned small businesses at CUNY schools across New York City’s five boroughs.

The press conference will take place at the Bronx Business Tech Incubator at Lehman College, CUNY on the Concourse, 2501 Grand Concourse, 3rd Fl starting at 3:45 p.m. There will also be a Virtual Reality Lab Tour at 4:20 p.m.

Lehman College of The City University of New York (CUNY) President Daniel Lemons, Verizon Foundation partners, CUNY partner school representatives, Bronx Business Council members, and Bronx Councilman Andrew Cohen are slated to attend. Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. has also been invited.

In addition to Lehman College, participating CUNY schools include Manhattan’s Baruch College, Queens College, the College of Staten Island and the New York City College of Technology in Brooklyn. Lehman College was only one of eight grant recipients in the Northeast and the only institution or organization to receive the grant in New York State.

The Bronx Business Tech Incubator was established in 2017 to foster technological development for local small businesses, tech freelancers and entrepreneurs from underserved communities in the Bronx. It aids businesses and entrepreneurs by providing access to technology and training they otherwise would not be able to afford. The Incubator is home to the only augmented reality/virtual reality lab in the Bronx.
