BRONX, NY—After an extensive national search, Lehman College of the City University of New York will welcome internationally-renowned composer and conductor Jennifer Jolley to the Music, Multimedia, Theatre, and Dance faculty in August 2022. Jolley will be joining Lehman as an assistant professor of music theory and composition, teaching music theory, composition, orchestration, form and analysis.
Her works have been commissioned and performed by ensembles worldwide. This summer, her piece March! will be performed at the 2022 World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles Conference in Prague, Czech Republic, and the Seogwipo Philharmonic Wind Orchestra in Jeju, South Korea.
Jolley has been composer-in-residence at multiple institutions and promotes composer advocacy through her articles for NewMusicBox and I CARE IF YOU LISTEN. Additionally, she sits on the Executive Council of the Institute for Composer Diversity and the New Music USA Program Council.
“I am so excited to join the faculty of Lehman College,” Jolley said. “I hope to build and grow the music department and champion its work promoting social justice, diversity and inclusion.”
Jason Noble, who chaired the search committee, called Jolley a change-maker and leader in the field.
“Our Lehman College family has gained a dynamic new member who will help lead us forward into unknown and exciting spaces,” said Noble.
Dr. Jolley received degrees from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (DMA & MM composition) and at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music (BM composition). She has been a member of the composition faculty at the Interlochen Arts Camp since 2015. She previously held positions at Texas Tech University and Ohio Wesleyan University.
