Moreover, the 9th episode of Law & Order ended with a twist as a tragedy happens with Elliot and his family. As far as we see, Elliot and his family were not even fully recovered from the loss when another tragedy snatched their happiness. In the middle of all the chaos, Elliot find himself stuck in an even dangerous situation from which he must get out soon. Moreover, the situation was a generous gift from Tim McKenna which will change his life from the top to the bottom.

Joe Stabler’s Death

Joe’s death is the most heartbreaking and disturbing scene in this season. As we have seen, Joe was playing two roles of two people who have opposite motives. On one side, he was pairing up with Julian Emercy, while on the other, he was working as an informant for Elliot. This is where he went wrong, as he was riding two boats at the same time. Julian Emercy gets to know about backup plans and thus, shoots him in an instant. Moreover, this move not only showed Joe’s death due to his indecisiveness but also the insensitivity and double standards of Emercy. He constantly called Joe his best friend until he had to shoot him down mercilessly.

However, what we fail to understand is that Joe was not against Emercy but his brother. Despite of making efforts to do right by them this time, he was planning to backstab them. However, his death made things worse for Elliot as he became the target of Joe’s past decisions.

Joe and Elliot’s Last Conversation

The relationship between the three Stabler brothers was always a delicate one, as they failed to understand each other. Seasons 4 and 5 have revealed the past traumas, secrets, and disagreements over the years. Moreover, their rooftop conversation eased some of their past tension and improved their relationship. While Randall and Elliot are trying to help their younger brother control his drug habit, Joe is still in contact with Emercy and the underworld dealers.

In their last conversation, Elliot presented Joe with an exclusive necklace, which was not just a gift. The necklace was embedded with a tracker as Elliot didn’t fully trust Joe in his drug addiction, but later on, he was guilty as this led to his death.

Joe’s Death’s Impact on Randall

Randall and Elliot didn’t have an exclusive relationship in the series, rather they had a series of anger and resentment between each other. Moreover, in the 4th and 5th season their bond has improved after they got together to stand by their mother in her health issues. In addition, their relationship improved more when they helped Joe in getting relief from his drug habit.

However, as we have seen, Joe’s death changed that relationship again. Randall was furious with Elliot for pushing Joe’s fate into a death hole when he found out about Joe’s connection with the underworld dealer, Redcoat. This may cause problems for Elliot in the season finale as his brother has gone against him all over again.

Joe’s Death and the Season 5 Finale

The story is expected to get darker with many more secrets and detective elements, as per Peacock. However, what the audience are impatient for is whether or not Elliot breaks his lawful boundaries to get to Emercy. They are impatient to watch whether Elliot will surpass the lengths to avenge his brother’s death, especially when Randall blames him for everything.
