The American romantic comedy series Laid Season 1 is directed by Nahnatchka Khan and Maurice Marable. On 19th December 2024, Laid premiered on Peacock, where the lead character Ruby Yao discovers that all her ex-boyfriends are dying. Ruby along with her crime-obsessed best friend AJ went on a path to find out that all her ex-partners with whom she had shared a bed or had sexual relationships. The first death she came across was of Brandon, ex-boyfriend from her college days. She went to his funeral with Jeffrey, Brandon’s best friend, and her other ex-boyfriend. They fought after leaving the funeral and Jeffrey got out of the Uber. As soon as Jeffery got out of Uber he was hit by a car.
After Brandon and Jeffrey’s deaths, Ruby and her Best friend AJ set out to discover the cause of these deaths and to warn other exes of Ruby so that they can prevent further deaths. It also shows that one can’t move forward in life without facing the traumas of their past life. Her relationship was also impacted by her family and every relationship also faced disturbance because of the previous romance. In season 1 Ruby is carrying emotional baggage and she also can’t escape from that. Season 1 is about the old wounds, hopefully in Season 2, Ruby will break the cycle of emotional drama and death.
The mystery behind the sudden deaths of Ruby’s ex
Season 1 of Laid is filled with mystery about the sudden death of Ruby’s ex-boyfriends. Ruby, Richie, and AJ came across various theories. They guessed about every possible reason, from a sexually transmitted disease to a stalker, but couldn’t guess the exact reason. Lastly, AJ found a video of Brad admitting that he had placed a hex on Ruby. Ruby, Richie, and AJ Brad asked him for the solution to the problem and he revealed that there is a woman who knows how to cast a hex and to transfer it to someone else. Then they transferred Hex into a neighbor, who used to annoy Ruby and AJ. But at the end of the series, Nahnatchka Khan drops a bomb on the viewers by revealing that Hex is not the reason for the sudden death of her ex-boyfriend, however, the deaths are related to intergenerational trauma.
Did Ruby’s Dad kill her Mom?
In Laid Season 1, Ruby deals with her past, she was struggling to cope with her mother’s death. There was a shocking revelation made by Ruby’s dad that he had also gone through the same thing Ruby was experiencing. She was blaming her dad for taking away her mom. However, in season 1 the exact reason for her mother’s death was not revealed. Most probably Season 2 of Laid will unveil the mysterious death of her Mom.
