The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), has condemned Monday’s targeted killing of five journalists, by Israel, saying, “Killing civilians – including journalists and first responders – to achieve a political or religious goal is the very definition of terrorism, and the Israeli government is engaged in state terrorism on a massive scale.”
The assassinated journalists are: Hussam Al-Masri, a Reuters contractor; Mohammed Salama, an Al Jazeera camera operator; Mariam Abu Dagga, freelance photojournalist with Independent Arabia and the Associated Press; Moaz Abu Taha, a freelance video journalist; and Ahmed Abu Aziz, who worked with Tunisian radio station Diwan FM.
The Committee to Protect Journalists have reported that the Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom said “A security source told the newspaper Israel Hayom today [Monday] that the reason for the attack on the Khan Yunis hospital was the presence of a camera on the hospital roof, which Hamas members were using to document IDF forces. The forces received permission to neutralize the camera, but the incident escalated into a wider incident.”
CAIR released the following statement regarding the murders of these journalists.
“Killing civilians – including journalists and first responders – to achieve a political or religious goal is the very definition of terrorism, and the Israeli government is engaged in state terrorism on a massive scale. It is clear the so-called ‘Israel Defense Forces’ do not regard Palestinians as human beings.
“We will no longer refer to the IDF as a military or its members as soldiers; they are cowards, war criminals and terrorists no different than the so-called army of Bashar Al-Assad that decimated Syria in similarly horrific ways.
“We call on the Trump administration and the international community to immediately halt all military aid to Israel, impose sanctions on its government and military leaders, support a full investigation into the ongoing war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Gaza, and end the genocide.”
