President W.Bush stated, “I send Kevin Byrd best wishes and continued success with his fight for prostate cancer around our nation. During National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, we pray for those who lost the battle against prostate cancer. We thank all the many professionals and educators like Kevin Byrd, and all other foundations who aid in these victories. By continuing our fight against this disease we will make our nation healthier and a more hopeful place”.
Governor Paterson says “In the humanitarian spirit of generosity and determination to reduce the incidents of prostate cancer among others, actor, Kevin Byrd has certainly taken significant steps to spread a message of hope and healing to men diagnosed with prostate cancer. You are to be commended for your leadership and tireless efforts to protect and improve the health of men of all ages and walks of life”.
Mayor Bloomberg stated, “On behalf of our city, I’m pleased to recognize Kevin Byrd the Chief Executive Officer of BrownByrd Prostate Cancer Foundation for contributing so much to the health and well being of our great city. Please accept my best wishes for continued success”.
Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz stated, “All of Brooklyn would like to salute and honor award winning actor, Kevin Byrd for his ongoing commitment to promoting community health and to fight against prostate cancer, since the death of his beloved grandfather who died of prostate cancer in 2003.”
Kevin Byrd an award winning entertainer, celebrating his 18th year anniversary in entertainment, has always had the passion for the performing arts and since the age of three. Today at age 27, has danced, sang, acted, modeled, produced, and directed his way into mainstream theatre, television, modeling, and motion pictures.
Kevin Byrd’s extensive talent and intellectual pursuits have led him to accomplish remarkable achievements for a little boy from Utica, New York since 1991 when he joined the Rhythm Lights ( a theatrical performing company) discovered by legendary director Doris Yagey. Byrd has performed in such musical productions in the early to late 90’s “Westside story”, “Oliver”, “Chorus Line”, “Goodbye Girl”, and “Wizard of Was.”
In February of this year, Kevin Byrd kicked off his first One Man Show tour entitled, “RELEASE,” and in April, starred in the new Bollywood movie, “When Kiran Meets Karen,” directed by award winning director Manan Kathora.
Byrd’s campaign against prostate cancer led him to establish his own not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) organization in April of this year, called “BrownByrd Prostate Cancer Foundation.”
Kevin Byrd attended Long Island University where he attracted the attention of a singing group “ IMPACQ. Kevin’s group won twice at the Apollo, won several talent shows, performed for an NAACP awards ceremony, the Million Youth March, and for the RCA recording group” IMAGINE .”
In 2002 Kevin starred in the indy film, “City Games,” which premiered in Japan in 2003, then went on to a leading role in an educational film entitled, Kevin’s Addiction and Nicole’s choice , winning the Cinema Golden Eagle and Freddie Award . In 2004, Kevin Byrd wrote, produced, and starred as leading actor in his award winning indy film, “ The Last Dayz,” a film promoting prostate cancer awareness, “The Last Dayz” has reached a media circulation of over 10,000,000 people, and has garnered Kevin Byrd international media status in over 17 countries.
Kevin Byrd also starred as the legendary Lt. John R. Fox, a legendary WW II African American hero who received the Congressional Gold Medal of Honor from President Clinton in a 1997 a TV Documentary called, “Honor Deferred ” a History Channel documentary produced by Al Roker and hosted by Samuel L. Jackson & Bernie Mac . Kevin Byrd theatrical talents have taken him to the stage in a One Man Show (at the Famous Off Broadway Theatre ”The Players Theatre” which drew a sold out audience and received rave reviews in New York City) “RELEASE” a one man show (written and produced by Kevin Byrd and poet Jason Hendricks) about a young man and his portrayal of a plethora of personalities from all walks of life.
In April 2005, Byrd appeared as the cover model for the hit Barnes & Nobles best seller list book “Things In Between” by Nathanial Portis and has appeared as a special guest on the Joe Kelly talk show (Utica, New York) in a TV special called, “ A Night with Kevin Byrd ” in a one–to-one intimate look at Kevin’s career progressions.
