WASHINGTON, D.C. — In an order issued last night, a federal district court issued a temporary restraining order blocking construction of Trump’s arch for 14 days.

Statement from Nick Sansone, Public Citizen Litigation Group attorney and lead lawyer for the plaintiffs in Lemmon v. Trump:
“The administration has barreled ahead toward construction of a massive arch that it decided last year to build in Memorial Circle, come hell or high water. Along the way, it has disregarded the multitude of adverse impacts the arch will have on the historic landscape, cut critical voices (including the voices of veterans and their families) out of the process, and made end-runs around legally required reviews. Most damningly, it has failed to obtain (or even to seek) approval from the one body with legal authority to initiate this sort of commemorative building project: Congress. The court’s order recognizes that Congress’s authorization is the indispensable starting point for the President’s project, and that such authorization is lacking here.”
