Jazz at Lincoln Center celebrates its 25th Anniversary Season with saxophonist/composer Joe Lovano and his group Us Five on February 22-23 in The Allen Room.
Joe Lovano Us Five featuring James Weldon (piano), GRAMMY winner Esperanza Spalding (bass), Peter Slavov (bass), Otis Brown III (drums) and Francisco Mela (drums), plus special guests Lionel Loueke (guitar) and Judi Silvano (vocals) will perform selections from the group’s new CD Cross Culture, Lovano’s 23rd Blue Note recording and third consecutive collaboration with the critically acclaimed double-drummer quintet.
“Lionel doesn’t just play guitar,” Lovano says, “he freely integrates himself with the rhythm section and with me in the front line, and shares the space in a personal way.”
