Season 23 of the American Idol is coming to an end soon. It has got its Top 5 contestants on May 11, 2025. Thus, we can say it is going to be difficult for the contestants to move forward in the next stages. All the contestants have worked day and night to reach this stage and they will try their best to secure their place in the award-winning list of American Idol.
The contestants were given a theme of Disney movie songs to sing in the battle to secure their place in the Top 5. They were expected to sing a song of Disney origin with their personal effects. The top 7 contestants gave their best in meeting the expectations of the judges. The judges were profoundly astounded by the efforts and skills of the contestants. However, they gave a standing ovation to one of the contestants for his outstanding performance, that is, Jamal Roberts.

Jamal Roberts’ performance
Jamal Roberts had chosen to sing ‘Go the Distance’, which is the theme song of the Disney movie Hercules. He confessed that he could relate his life story and dedication to this song and thus, decided to own this song, as said by the judges. The lyrics of this song by Roger Bart are as follows:
“ I am on my way
Somehow, I’ll be strong
I don’t care how far
I can go the distance
I know every mile
Will be worth my while
I would go most anywhere to find where I belong”
The song shows how we should never give up on our dreams, whatever the situation is. Jamal Roberts said he could feel the lyrics because he has come through a lot of struggles in his life to stand on the platform. He believed he could achieve his dream and he is living it. The 27 year old individual has created his legacy by singing this song with his whole heart and soul.
The judges were highly impressed by the way he sang the song and the deeper meaning behind the choice of this song. They gave him a standing ovation for his awe-inspiring performance at the Top 5 selection weekend.
The guest judge, Lin-Manuel Miranda could not stop praising him. She let the audience know how she has a conversation with him during the rehearsals and how proud she is of him. He owned a song he never sang. According to the other judges, he leaves magic in the genres he may never have touched, which shows his versatility.
The guest judge also remarked that Jamal Roberts has the R&B voice of the Gods. Jamal’s reaction to this remark was priceless. It took him a while to digest all these compliments from his respective judges.
