With the end of this year Justin Trudeau, the Canadian Prime minister went through one of the biggest tests of his political life when Chrystia Freeland, the finance minister of Canada announced her resignation from the cabinet on Monday. Chrystia was among one of the most powerful and trusted ministers of Trudeau’s cabinet.
This sudden move of Chrystia, raised a lot of questions about the Canadian Prime minister of how long he is going to stay in the administration. As it’s been 10 years he has been in the chair of prime minister, this news created concern about the immigration and inflation of Trudeau’s popularity. Jagmeet Singh, who is the leader of the opposition party has also demanded the resignation from Trudeau. However, the main conservative opposition also demanded an election.
Freeland, who has also served as the deputy Prime minister of Canada, said that on Friday Trudeau had told her that he no longer wanted Freeland to serve as the finance minister of the country and had offered her a different role in the cabinet ministry. In her resignation letter Freeland said that only an “honest and viable path” was the reason to leave the cabinet. The two month sales tax holiday and $270 AUD checks which were imposed to Canadians was not liked by Freeland and Trudeau. In her resignation free land also said that Canada is facing a grave challenge. The officials of liberal party said that without portfolio and without a department Freeland was offered the position of minister in charge in Canada.
Trudeau said that in the next elections he has no plans to lead the liberal party. Many party members have also said that Trudeau is not needed in the government election for the fourth term. On Monday evening there was a meeting of lawmakers with Trudeau, but no one of them told what happened in the meeting. Chad Collins, the liberal lawmaker, said that there are many members who want to change the leadership and he is among them. He also said that choosing a new leader is the only path forward for them. Trudeau is trying to make Mark Carney join his government who has been trying for a long time to enter politics and become the leader of liberal party.
