On August 1, 2025, at 12:30 pm, Sirico and an intern were moving heavy staging platforms down a slope at the Becket, MA campus. The dolly started to roll away, and Sirico tried to stop it. She tripped and fell under the loaded dolly. The staging equipment fell on top of her.

Immediate Impact and Weekend Closures

Jacob’s Pillow, having heard news of and in response to that accident, had canceled the performances of August 1 through 3 and closed the campus over the weekend. The decision was made within hours of the accident. They notified audiences, performers and staff quickly and shut down all the genes and public events for the initial closure. They will reevaluate the festival soon. Patrons were notified about ticket cancellations and campus closures.

Full Season Cancellation and Next Steps

On August 5, the Jacob’s Pillow Board of Trustees announced that they will cancel the season through August 24. The leadership declared that Festival 2025 will not continue due to the tragedy. They also confirmed refunds for all ticket holders, with processing within 5-7 business days.

The board said they made this painful decision after mourning and reflection. They will share more remembrances and reflections in the coming days.

Investigations Underway

The Berkshire District Attorney’s Office and Massachusetts State Police started investigating immediately. The Office reviewed the scene, tools, safety procedures and staff training. OSHA also joined the inquiry to look at workplace protocols and standards. Investigators are looking into how the dolly lost control on the sloped terrain and if there were preventative measures in place.

Officials said this appears to be an accident. No charges will follow.
