In Abidjan, the capital city of the Ivory Coast, thousands of Ivorians have taken to the streets to protest the exclusion of opposition leaders in the upcoming October election.

Protesters were seen with signs such as “No true democracy without true justice” and “Enough is enough!”
This is happening as current President Alassane Ouattara, 83, announced that he will be seeking a fourth term as president. Ouattara has been president for 14 years. In 2016, he change the country’s constitution which imposed term limits.
The protests are taking place to object to the banning of opposition politicians like Tidjane Thiam, a former Credit Suisse CEO and ex-President Laurent Gbagbo.
Another banner among protesters read “We are millions saying YES to Gbagbo and Thiam.”
Activist Sagesse Divine, who marched Saturday, said, “We don’t want a fourth term, and we want the electoral roll revised, that’s what we are asking for. We want all candidates’ names included, and we want to go to the elections in peace, that’s all we want.”
The Ivory Coast is the world’s top cocoa producer.
