After the war between Israel and Iran cooled down, Israel turned its face towards Yemen, situated in Saudi Arabia. On Tuesday, Israel sent its navy to destroy the possible terrorist sites in Houthi, Yemen, as part of its anti-terrorist operation. The strikes took place on one of the ports, Hudaydah, which was targeted to destroy the military-purpose port service of the area. Although no casualties were reported, the strike caused a lot of damage, being fired from about 100 km away from the port. According to an Israeli official, the operation on the Houthis had been planned for a very long time. He also added that even though the operation took time for implementation, it was conducted very smoothly and successfully. The last strike on Yemen was about a month ago when they planned to attack a port near Sana’a International Airport.
While the US has backstepped from striking the Iran-funded terrorist groups, the Houthis are still a direct threat to Israel. Thus, Israel has been attempting to bomb and destroy these terrorist camps to support Gaza in the war since 2023. In retaliation for the attacks, Houthis have also sent two missiles into Israel’s territories to compensate for the loss in recent hours.
Houthis on the Israeli Strike
They (Houthis) have claimed that they have attacked Israeli territory after they attempted to destroy many ports and powerhouses in their area. It has been clarified that the attacks on Israel are in support of the Palestinians in Gaza, who are suffering adversely due to Israeli strikes and bombing. It says that the group has fired around 100 missiles on Israeli territory and around the same number of attacks on the community areas along the Red Sea. This all began with the Israel-Gaza war that began in 2023 and has caused a lot of damage to Gaza.
Houthis stopped the attacks on Israel when a ceasefire was imposed between Israel and Gaza to talk things out. Hamas, which originally started terrorist attacks in Israel, dragged Gaza into its war, and now the people are suffering the rage of both communities. The pause broke when the US launched a strike on Yemen again on 15 March, just after two months of a ceasefire. The US strike killed almost 300 people in Yemen, which forced the Houthis back into the war.
Attacks on Houthis by Israel
The Middle East is in a delicate condition right now, where three countries- Israel, Iran, and Gaza are already tangled in a war with each other. While the Israel-Gaza war is stable amid the extended ceasefire, Tehran is in negotiations after the US destroyed its major nuclear plants, along with Israel. Followed by it, on Sunday, Yemen also added to the Middle East tensions as Israel attacked the ports of the Houthis. On Sunday night, the media outlets of Yemen reported that a strike had been observed on the Houthis’ port, Hodeidah, along with 2 other ports and a powerhouse.
While the attacks were observed from Israel’s side, a spokesperson for the Houthis claimed that most of the attacks were neutralized by their air defense system. Nabil Alyousefi, a reporter, also claimed that the attacks at Hodeidah port were also downplayed to a great extent, praising the Houthis’ defense system.
Houthis have claimed that no casualties were caused, including major property losses from Israeli strikes. In addition, they have shown their readiness to be prepared for any future strikes implemented by Israel and a thirst to avenge Israel’s territory.
Attack Insights in Houthis, Yemen
A drone and grenade attack was implemented on a Red Sea Cargo ship, which sparked a fire on the container and put the crew in danger. To save their lives, the crew had to abandon the ship, and many hostilities were also observed. While no one is claiming this attack, the UK maritime agency has claimed that the target was the nearest target point of the Houthis.
Other than this attack, many attacks were implemented by Israel in Lebanon, southern regions, eastern Bekaa regions, and against Hezbollah, which caused a considerable loss of property. The main targets of Israel are the military base camps and storage facilities, to weaken the Houthis’ military power. Even after a ceasefire was imposed in November, Israel has continued its operation against terrorism.
Conclusion
Israel has gained a reputation for attacking terror camps in countries and constantly breaking the ceasefire agreement. Moreover, in many operations, it is backed by the US military troops to destroy the threats and possible locations where military attacks can begin. However, Houthis don’t seem to like the operation as it directly impacts the properties of the area and thus, have decided to retaliate against the attacks.
