Monday, Howard University launched “Bison In The Know,” an online news and information campaign that offers useful tips and advice from Howard’s faculty experts about issues that are important to the Black community.

During this pandemic, our strength is in our ability to stay connected and informed,” said President Wayne A. I. Frederick. “Bison In The Know will provide our campus community and the global community-at-large with news you can use as curated by our esteemed faculty scholars who will share knowledge and insights from their respective areas of research.”

Using the hashtag #BisonInTheKnow, content will viewable on a weekly basis via Howard’s social media channels and in the Howard University Newsroom. Content will include a range of topics, including tips for life at-home, expert recommendations for maintaining health and wellness, and perspective on today’s most pressing issues.

Bison In The Know will feature a series of videos, articles, virtual panels and interviews with experts in science, medicine, politics, communications, education, theology and more.

In Monday’s feature, Howard University Professor Tyish S. Hall Brown, Ph.D., MHS, offers tips on how to talk to young people during the COVID-19 health crisis. Hall Brown, a child and adolescent psychologist and director of the school-based behavioral health program in the Howard University College of Medicine, notes that children are vulnerable to symptoms of anxiety and depression as a result of exposure to the coronavirus crisis. Her tips include a recommendation to, “talk to them often, ask them what they know about social distancing and hygiene protocols, encourage them to take their remote learning seriously, and spend quality time indoors having fun.”
