House Speaker Pelosi: “Every day, our children and our communities are forced to endure horrendous acts of violence and bloodshed, while Republicans continue to obstruct meaningful, bipartisan solutions to end the epidemic of gun violence…Senator McConnell must finally allow a vote on the bipartisan, commonsense gun violence prevention legislation that the House passed 260 days ago. Our children deserve action.”

Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on the shooting at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita, California, which killed at least two innocent people (a 16-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy) and left several others injured:
“Today, the hearts of all Americans break for the Saugus High School community and the entire Santa Clarita community. We pray for the victims, the survivors and all impacted by this latest horrific act of gun violence. As we continue to await further information, our gratitude is with the heroic first responders who acted swiftly to save lives and bring care and support to those devastated by this tragedy.
“Every day, our children and our communities are forced to endure horrendous acts of violence and bloodshed, while Republicans continue to obstruct meaningful, bipartisan solutions to end the epidemic of gun violence. We will never rest until our children are safe. No one’s political survival is more important than the survival of our children.
“Senator McConnell must finally allow a vote on the bipartisan, commonsense gun violence prevention legislation that the House passed 260 days ago. Our children deserve action. Enough is enough.”
The shooter is now being identified as Nathaniel Berhow, a 16-year-old Asian, who attended Saugus High School. Reportedly, Berhow, whose birthday is said to be today, apparently tried to kill himself.
