Legendary freedom-fighter Dr. Angela Davis will be one of the main speakers at the upcoming National Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression in Chicago.

Chicago will become the site for re-founding a Black-led, left-led, intergenerational, national movement dedicated to fighting racism, police crimes and mass incarceration.

The Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (CAARPR) has called together over 120 organizations from across the country who will assemble at the Chicago Teachers Union Hall to re-found the National Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression, originally formed in 1973 as part of the movement to free Angela Davis and all political prisoners.

Dr. Davis herself will kick-off the multi-day conference with a free public Rally on Human Rights on Friday the 22nd at 7 PM. The conference continues until the 24th. Conference registration is $25 general and $15 students. Other keynote speakers include Frank Chapman, former political prisoner and Field Organizer of CAARPR.

In the wake of renewed FBI surveillance of Black activists; the depraved caging of immigrant families and children seeking sanctuary at the border; and an epidemic of police murder of Black and Brown men and women, CAARPR has issued this call to Refound the National Alliance in order to demand a national movement for community control of the police and to protect the inalienable democratic rights of the peoples’ movements to protest and organize for systemic change.

A recent study published by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences revealed that murder by police is now a leading cause of death among young men in America, with Black men 2.5 times more likely than their white counterparts to be killed by police.

These senseless killings show the need for radical reform and why aligning all progressive forces against police impunity is central to the struggle for human rights. Attendees will hear from police crime survivors and the families of Chicago and national police torture victims (#FREETHEMALL).

“We are expecting hundreds of attendees and various movement fighters,” said Frank Chapman of the CAARPR. “This conference will put forth a national agenda to win community control of police and fight for democracy in all movements.”
