(LOS ANGELES, NEW YORK) August 8, 2023 – Morrison Hotel Gallery is pleased to announce “Hip Hop at 50,” an exceptional exhibition co-curated by two iconic legends of music and entertainment, Queen Latifah and Whoopi Goldberg. This historic celebration marks the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop, taking viewers on an immersive journey through five decades of cultural revolution. The exhibition, featuring 50 iconic photographs, will be unveiled in an exhilarating Opening Night extravaganza simultaneously held in both Los Angeles and New York galleries, making this a landmark event for Hip Hop enthusiasts and art connoisseurs alike.

The exhibition will kick off with an extra-special opening party on the night of Thursday, August 10th from 7-9pm at Morrison Hotel Gallery Sunset Marquis located at 1200 Alta Loma Road in West Hollywood, and from 6-8pm at Morrison Hotel Gallery 116 Prince Street in New York City, with support from Creek Water Whiskey. Guests will have the opportunity to view the stunning collection, experience a tasting booth from Whoopi Goldberg’s marijuana company Emma and Clyde by WhoopFam, and immerse themselves in the world of Hip Hop with captivating DJ sets.

“Hip Hop at 50” is an extraordinary exhibition, meticulously co-curated by two trailblazing women whose contributions to music, film, and culture are unparalleled. Queen Latifah and Whoopi Goldberg have joined forces with Morrison Hotel Gallery to create a visual odyssey that captures the essence of Hip Hop’s evolution from its birth in the Bronx to its global prominence. Each of the 50 handpicked photographs reflects the genre’s transformative power and its impact on society, making this exhibition an ode to the resilience and creativity of the Hip Hop community.

Showcasing the work of renowned photographers Danny Clinch, Timothy White, and Lynn Goldsmith, Josh Cheuse, Mike Miller, Jonathan Mannion, among others, the collection captures legendary artists such as Run DMC, Snoop Dogg, Tupac, Dr. Dre, Notorious B.I.G., Beastie Boys, Jay-Z, Eminem, Wu Tang Clan, and many more that have defined the genre. Select iconic images include Jay Blakesberg’s Snoop Dogg’s 1989 The Source cover with the artist rapturously mid puff on a j; Mike Miller’s intimate “f-u” Tupac pic; and Timothy White’s heroic snap of a young, blinged out Jay Z.

The exhibition will be on display at Morrison Hotel Gallery Los Angeles and New York City from Thursday, August 10th until Thursday, August 24th with select works and additional imagery available online HERE.
