Has Trump Just Officially Declared War On Black America?

Saturday, Donald Trump said Chicago “will find out why it’s called the Department of WAR,” as he threatened the city with federal troop invasion. Trump also texted “Chipocalypse Now,” a reference to the 1979 movie Apocalypse Now—about the Vietnam War.

Can we now officially say Trump has declared war on Black America and blue cities?

In response to Trump, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker said, “The President of the United States is threatening to go to war with an American city. This is not a joke. This is not normal. Donald Trump isn’t a strongman, he’s a scared man. Illinois won’t be intimidated by a wannabe dictator.”

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said, “The President’s threats are beneath the honor of our nation, but the reality is that he wants to occupy our city and break our Constitution. We must defend our democracy from this authoritarianism by protecting each other and protecting Chicago from Donald Trump.”

On Friday, Trump signed an executive order to change the name of the Department of Defense to the department of war. And then, the very next day he is telling Chicagoans they “will find out why it’s called the Department of WAR.” Does anyone think the timing here is just coincidental?

From the very beginning of his entrance into politics, Trump has always used racism as his primary trump card. It started with his racist Birther attacks, on President Barack Obama, before he started his xenophobic insults against Latinos and Muslims.

As an important Black city, Chicago has been a frequent target of Trump. Let’s look at a few examples.

In September 2016, in a Fox & Friends interview, Trump said, Chicago was “worse than some of the places we’re hearing about like Afghanistan.” In February 2017, he said Chicago was “worse than some of the places … in the Middle East where you have wars going on.” Before Trump lost the 2020 election, he said, “New York City and Chicago play the Sanctuary City card, where criminals are protected.”

Chicago, because it is the second largest Black city (by population) and is in a blue state, is being targeted by Trump as red meat for the racists in his MAGA base. However, it should be quite clear that Trump is declaring war on Black America. And Blacks who live in blue cities are now the main scapegoats.

Desperate to scrub the Jeffrey Epstein files stories from the media, Trump’s racism tells him assaulting Black cities is the way to change the narrative. Unfortunately, this means Black Americans are now in further jeopardy of being dehumanized and oppressed by law enforcement. Back in 2017, at a speech, before law enforcement, on Long Island, New York, Trump said, “When you see these thugs being thrown into the back of a paddy wagon, you just seen them thrown in, rough. I said, ‘Please don’t be too nice.’”

Since America’s racist police institution has never been “too nice” in their treatment of Black people, we must ask ourselves what negative consequences will occur because of Trump’s inflammatory false statements regarding crime in places like Chicago and D.C.?

The white, undemocratic, institution of policing, thoroughly and rightfully condemned after the murder of George Floyd, has now been empowered, by Trump, to continue brutalizing and murdering Black Americans—without fear of consequences like they have had over the last few years. This is why the Fraternal Order of Police endorsed Trump to be America’s first convict president, over a career prosecutor.

Many in MAGA also voted for Trump because they want to see Black Americans beaten down by police. And now that Trump is facing unrelenting scrutiny because of the hidden files of his pedophile sex trafficker friend Epstein, Trump is declaring war on Black America.
