Will America break the glass ceiling by electing Kamala Harris the first woman
and Black President?
We will learn where this country has reached historically.
Since Biden stepped aside and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate against Donald Trump the Republicans have responded with ugly abuses, including racist attacks.
Top Republicans including Members of Congress started referring to Kamala as a “DEI hire” implying that she was unqualified for all the professional positions she’s held and was beneficiary of a racial quota. The GOP is panicking because they and convicted felon and serial liar Trump thought their opponent would be senior citizen Biden whose age has caught up.
Kamala Harris has been a community organizer, District Attorney, Attorney General, U.S. Senator, and currently is vice president of the United States.
If she is elected president it will be due to her own talents, intelligence, and qualifications. She won’t need a disinformation campaign on her behalf from Russia or an attempted coup d’etat by invading Congress.
When Obama ran for president Trump was ringleader of the racist “birther” campaign, claiming that he wasn’t a U.S. citizen and that he was also a secret Muslim. Yet, Obama’s intelligence and skills enabled him to survive the landmines in his path to victory over the late Senator John McCain. Similarly, Harris’s own attributes will determine her success.
In reality what Trump really detests, fears, and can’t stand are Black people that are much more intelligent than he is. This is the case for both Obama and Harris. In reality it’s Trump whose “achievements” are linked to his financial inheritance from his father and his white-skin-privilege. He was fed from a golden spoon from birth and thinks we are all still here to respond to his whims and needs.
Trump continues to peddle his lies that he beat Joe Biden and that the 2020 vote was stolen from him.
Trump is afraid that Harris, a Black woman, will run circles around him and has already backed out of an ABC TV debate scheduled debate. He went ballistic when a Black woman moderator at the NABJ conference asked him a tough question about why African Americans should back him given his past attacks against the community.
Additionally, in these tough times for voters, the GOP have more reasons for concern–a recent poll found that 75% of Americans believe Republicans are in it for themselves, with the rich helping the rich get wealthier. Meanwhile, working class Black, Latino, and white communities struggle to survive. These communities must all ask themselves: What has Trump done for me and given his character what can he do for me?
The answer is a resounding “nothing”!
Joe Biden’s passing of the torch to Vice President Harris might be the last opportunity for Americans to course-correct this country before it strikes the iceberg.
