NEW YORK CITY — In response to breaking news of federal agents going door to door, intimidating voters under false claims of election security, Rebecca Rodriguez, Co-Director of Hands Off NYC, released the following statement:

“For the past two years, when we’ve seen federal agents in our communities, we think of ICE terrorizing our neighbors, abducting children on their way to school, and shooting American citizens in the streets — when news breaks of federal agents going door-to-door in the lead-up to our elections, the goal isn’t election safety or security; it’s an authoritarian tactic to stoke fear.

“Here are the facts: Non-citizen voting is virtually non-existent. Voting continues to be safe, secure, and state-run — and federal agents should have nothing to do with it.

“The Trump Administration has tried to weaponize every branch of government to intimidate opposition, spread fear in our communities, and make desperate attempts to seize more power for themselves. They will not succeed. From early voting through Election Day, we must show up and cast our ballots, ensuring turnout is so high that they have no room to deny the results. And if the Trump Administration tries to sabotage the elections here or anywhere in the country, New York will be prepared to hit the streets en masse to protect our elections.”
