Gotham Winery founder Kwaw Amos runs New York’s only Black-owned run winery.
While the Black Lives Matter movement has made significant progress and headlines, many Black leaders are urging citizens to stay the course and to continue advocating for and supporting Black-owned businesses, an act easily accomplished no matter what you’re seeking to purchase, even if it’s a robust glass of cabernet.
Kwaw Amos believes in the importance of promoting diversity in entrepreneurship and in paying back and helping other Black business owners advance in this country.
Amos is an investment banker by day, but his real passion lies in finding the perfect blend of grapes to craft his robust line of wines.Amos found his interest in the wine making process at the age of 13 after he won the local science fair with a project about distillation. He later founded Oson Wine Cellars, NY State’s only African American owned and run winery. In 2019 the winery was renamed Gotham Winery, and has quickly gained a name in the wine-making industry.
Amos is now featuring his “Unity” wine series–a wine dedicated to the harmony of land, fruit and people, which he felt could serve as an example for man-kind.
