Wednesday, Charles McMillian, 61, in tearful testimony, in the trial of Derek Chauvin, called Chauvin “a maggot.”
Mr. McMillian’s testimony was damaging to Chauvin, who is charged with murdering George Floyd. After McMillian’s testimony, where he broke down crying, Chauvin’s defense team, tellingly, decline to question him.
McMillian was probably the only person on the scene who, initially, was giving police the benefit of the doubt. He is the one heard repeatedly asking Floyd to get up and get in the car because “you can’t win.”
However, McMillian after seeing Floyd murdered dramatically changed his stance against Chauvin–who he said he had a brief and cordial conversation with five days before Floyd’s murder. McMillian said he talked to Chauvin about Chauvin getting home safe to his family.
But after McMillian witnessed Chauvin murder Floyd his demeanor changed, and he testified that, “In my mind, I said to Mr. Chauvin … five days I said go home to your family safe and let them go home to their families safe. But today I look at you as a maggot.”
