The Ford Motor Company Fund will present the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (NCNW) with a check for $10,000 in support of the Dorothy I. Height Institute’s Leadership Development Program, company officials said. The presentation will take place September 8, during a reception from 6:00-9:00 p.m at The NCNW headquarters, 633 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W. in Washington, D.C.
The NCNW’s Leadership Development Program is designed to equip African American women with the nuts and bolts skills necessary to lead a successful NCNW section or affiliate.
Participants learn organizational structure, the importance of mentoring, the requirements of a 501(c)3 organization and how it operates and how to use technology to strengthen their section or affiliate, among other vital organizational and leadership tools. In addition to its contribution to the NCNW, Ford Motor Company will sponsor a CBC legislative issues forum on the automobile industry on Friday, September 10, 2004 from 12:00 noon-1:30 p.m. at the Washington, D.C.
Convention Center, located at 801 Mount Vernon Street, N.W. That forum, led by Rep. Corrine Brown (D-FL), will bring together representatives from the automobile and insurance industries to discuss issues surrounding automobile safety, including seat belt safety and teen driving.
Also at that forum, Ford will present its Driving Skills For Life program, a multi-year educational campaign launched in 2003 along with the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to improve teenage driving skills and to raise awareness, with the hope of helping to reduce the number of teen driving deaths. To date, nearly 4 million students and their parents have participated in the program.
