Mobile money transfers dominated among people using the payment processor Flutterwave in Ghana, Kenya, and Uganda last year, a report by the company found.

Meanwhile, South Africans mostly used the platform for card payments and in Nigeria bank transfers were the most widely employed, closely followed by card transactions. US card giants Visa and Mastercard have poured money into Africa’s payments scene in recent years, including investments in mobile money operations by telecom operators MTN and Airtel.
The appeal for such investments is set to rise in line with strong mobile money growth in Africa, as illustrated by Ghana’s record transactions last year.
