(Black PR Wire) Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – Florida Power & Light Company (FPL), America’s largest electric utility, has signed on as one of the sponsors of the first-ever Florida Beach Bowl, an NCAA-sanctioned intercollegiate varsity football game specifically designed to provide a platform for Black students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to showcase their talents on a national stage.
The event, set to take place in Ft. Lauderdale at DRV PNK Stadium on Dec. 13th, will feature a match-up between two HBCU teams: Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls (7-3) vs. Fort Valley State Wildcats (7-3). This first-ever “Battle by the Beach” is significant in that provides an opportunity for underrepresented students to participate in bowl games that have been historically out of reach.
“We are delighted to be a part of this first-ever Bowl Game,” says Juliet Roulhac, Director of External Affairs for the Broward & Southwest Region for FPL, and Director of Corporate Philanthropy for NextEra Energy, Inc. “We are equally thrilled to support this event in Broward County, which will have a favorable impact throughout the South Florida communities.”
“It is an honor to have FPL join us as an Official Sponsor,” said Victor Robenson, Chief Executive Officer, Florida Beach Bowl, Inc. “Their commitment to the community and willingness to support this groundbreaking endeavor deserves to be applauded, and is greatly appreciated.”
The Florida Beach Bowl also provides six days of fun in the sun community events, including the Celebrity Golf Tournament on Dec. 8; the 5K Run on Dec. 9; the Prayer Brunch on Dec. 10; the Coaches’ Luncheon on Dec. 11; the Media Day on Dec. 12; and the Fanfest Festival & Game Day on Dec. 13.
