On Sunday, April 14, from 3:30PM to 5:30PM, the New York Chapter of the National Association of Kawaida Organizations (NAKO) in conjunction with the International African Arts Festival (IAAFestival) will host on the life of South African anti-Apartheid revolutionary leader Chris Hani, a giant of African history.
“Martin Thembisile “Chris” Hani was born in Cofimvaba on June 28, 1942 (he was martyred on April 10, 1993). He made rapid progress in the struggle organizations and filled senior positions in the African National Congress, the South African Communist Party and Umkhonto We Sizwe.”
This film, The Life and Times of Chris Hani, will examine his rich dedicated life through “…interviews and archive material.” It also examines how the nation of South Africa almost went into a full-blown civil war after his assassination. It was only prevented after a very strong appeal from his comrades, future South African president Nelson Mandela among them. The film will be followed by a Q & A as well as discussion.
The April 14th event will take place in IAAFestival office at 1360 Fulton Street, Suite 401 in Restoration Plaza, Brooklyn, New York. A fee minimum fee of $10 is requested. For Info: 718-789-3264 / 638-6700 or [email protected].
