False Flag? Uganda Machete Killings Continue While Framed Lawmakers Remain Incarcerated

[The View From Uganda]

The two Ugandan opposition party members of Parliament Allan Ssewanyana and Muhammad Ssegirinya are still in prison on preposterous bogus charges by dictator Gen. Yoweri Museveni that they masterminded a machete murder-spree several months ago.

The MPs who represent Makindye West, and Kawempe North, respectively, have been tortured. They belong to the National Unity Platform party led by Robert Kyagulanyi, a.k.a Bobi Wine, whom most Ugandans believe is the rightful winner of the Jan. 14, 2021 presidential election. Gen. Museveni’s regime claims they were behind the killing spree in Lwengo and Masaka districts by machete-wielding killers—supposedly recruited and deployed by the two lawmakers—that left 30 people dead.

The two MPs are in prison yet, now three people, including a soldier and an External Security Organization (ESO) operative, have been arrested by police on suspicion of being part of a gang carrying out machete attacks in Kira division, Wakiso district.

So, are the falsely accused and incarcerated MPs behind this gang too?

The state identified the gang members as: Alex Murungi, an ESO operative attached to Goli border; David Mukiibi, a businessman; and a soldier, James Owobushobozi attached to the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) barracks in Mbarara district.

All the suspects are currently detained at Kira division Police station, pending investigations, police say.

Their charge sheet reads like a Stephen King novel with the frightening allegation that nine men armed with pangas, riding on three motorcycles, including two with government security operative registration number plates, intercepted residents of Lubugumu and Kiganda in Kira in Wakiso district, tortured and robbed them of their money and valuables recently.

To cast a wider investigative net, Internal Security Organization (ISO) and the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) have joined the Police to get to the bottom of how Murungi left his work station in Goli, West Nile, to become a suspect. The deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed the arrest and alleged attacks on civilians.

“All the three victims were cut with pangas and beaten up; they sustained injuries,” Owoyesigyire said.

“The victims were intercepted by a group of nine men who were on three motorcycles, one with a civilian number plate and the other two with government number plates while dressed in civilian attire and armed with pangas, big torches, a stick, electric wires and batons,” Owoyesigyire said. Pangas is a common word for machetes in East Africa.

Now, this is where it becomes ridiculous.

In order to keep the bogus narrative of MPs Ssewanyana and Ssegirinya being guilty, the regime has come up with a remarkably stupid conclusion to prove that the two legislators are also, in part, responsible for the machete attacks in Kira.

The Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, claims a recent spate of machete attacks in the metropolitan Kampala area—the capital—were borrowing from the attacks masterminded in Masaka by Ssewanyana and Ssegirinya.

“These are copycats who have used the Masaka situation to attack unsuspecting residents, especially in the Kampala metropolitan policing area. They will be defeated,” Enanga said.

The state is using bulletins of lies and propaganda to take down anyone who opposes it. The regime can’t explain how the machete attacks continue unabated while the supposed masterminds are behind bars.

It’s more likely that a UPDF soldier and ESO operative are involved as part of a false flag operation by dictator Museveni himself. Anything to justify repression as the regime is shunned domestically and internationally.

The U.S., which pays a good chunk of the regime’s bills with almost $1 billion in annual support on April 16, 2021 rejected the Jan. 14, 2021 election as “neither free, nor fair,” meaning Washington doesn’t recognize Gen. Museveni as the legitimate president.

The regime commits heinous crimes and blame them on NUP as a pretext to terrorize the opposition and anyone perceived to be a dissenter from Museveni’s 36 years tyranny.

Please watch this space for more trumped-up charges and killings as escalation of state terrorism against civilians continues.

The long night that is the NRM regime in Uganda will eventually end.
