May 22, 2024 – New York, NY – Faith for Black Lives leads a coalition of over 50 faith leaders from across the nation to call upon President Joseph Biden to pardon former Black Baltimore State Attorney Marilyn Mosby. Attorney Mosby is a public servant who unjustly faces up to 40 years in prison and will be sentenced today, May 23, 2024.
In a letter sent to the Administration, faith leaders state, “Throughout her career, Marilyn has been a stalwart advocate for the vulnerable and has fought tirelessly to uphold the principles of justice, a mission that resonates deeply with our scriptural call to ‘act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God’ (Micah 6:8). Her efforts in seeking justice for Freddie Gray and many others reflect a relentless pursuit of a fairer legal system.”
Rev. Stephen A. Green, Chair of Faith for Black Lives, emphasized the urgency of this moment, stating, “The sentencing of Attorney Marilyn Mosby is not just a legal matter but a moral crisis. We are at a critical juncture where the values of justice and mercy must prevail. It is imperative that President Biden grants a full pardon to bring peace to her family and restore faith in our legal system.”
Faith leaders ask that President Biden grant a full pardon to Marilyn Mosby and bring peace to her family. Prominent faith leaders include Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie, Pastor Jamal H. Bryant, Dr. Gina M. Stewart, Pastor, Christ Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Mark Thompson, Bishop Leah Daughtery, Dr. W. Franklyn Richardson, Dr. Frederick D. Haynes, III, and more.
