NEW YORK, NY — October 28, 2026 — At today’s press conference and rally, led by Rev. Daughtry and fellow faith leaders, alongside New York City Council Members Althea Stevens, Farah Louis, and Carmen DeLaRosa, community leaders voiced their disappointment regarding the Mayor’s actions surrounding NYC CORE’s leadership and reaffirmed the importance of its established appointment process.

Speakers emphasized that the appointment process involves both the Speaker of the New York City Council and the Mayor, underscoring that the Mayor does not have unilateral authority over the process.
The gathering also reaffirmed the importance of Linda Tigani’s continued leadership as Chair and Executive Director of NYC CORE. Her leadership is central to maintaining the city’s racial equity initiatives and ensuring that reparations efforts remain on track.
The faith leaders and elected officials expressed disappointment that the established shared appointment process and the continuity of NYC CORE’s leadership have become points of concern. They stressed that the city’s commitment to racial equity and reparative justice must be reflected in both its actions and its respect for established governance procedures.
Today’s rally served as a clear reminder that NYC CORE’s leadership and mission must be respected and protected. The work of racial equity and reparations requires accountability, transparency, and collaboration—not actions that undermine the established process or disrupt critical work serving New Yorkers.
