Experts are warning that African universities need to ramp up their efforts to adjust to the growing use of Artificial Intelligence.

Unlike in the US, where written policies for AI use in teaching and learning is taking place at around 70 percent of universities, African universities are lagging far behind. South Africa is a noticeable exception.
A recent research paper stated that what is needed by African universities, on AI, is “robust guidelines that balance technological advances with traditional teaching methods.”
Researcher Caroline Wandiri Mwea, from Kenyatta University in Nairobi, said African universities are struggling with funding that negatively impacts their ability to adjust to new technologies. “What will matter in the job market is how fast we embrace new technologies to our benefit,” Mwea said.
