National talk host, bestselling author and now emerging artist Rob Redding today reached No. 1 best seller for his book "SMEARED" on painting on Amazon.com
The adversity-defying art biography of his life reached No. 1 in the coveted "New Releases in Art Reference" and "New Releases in Art Study & Teaching" categories, according to Amazon.com. Redding tells his powerful personal story as he introduces a highly original and new style of painting called “Constructive Expressionism.”
"I found a way to turn the struggle into triumph," he said, "turning pain into pictures."
The book, which was released Friday 13th, includes numerous new art and talks about his deceased mother, teacher and artist Mary Ann Redding, Redding said. Redding’s mother, who died at age 53 when he was just 18, was a retired Atlanta Public Schools teacher.
“My mother would draw and create all the materials for her classroom,” he said. “She was an amazing lady who was recognized by the superintendent for being a very good teacher who cared for her students over her 30 years in education.”
Beyond his mother, he also credits his sister Atlanta-based actor and activist Keena Redding for encouraging his artistic career.
Using the talent inherited from his mother and with the support of his sister, he went on and obtained an MFA from Pratt Institute in painting and drawing in the spring. Redding also has a Masters in Communication from Marshall and has also taught at colleges in New York City.
Redding is a popular talk show host who has an audience in nearly half the country listening to his show daily for the last decade this April. He has numerous awards for his show and his website Redding News Review.com, which just celebrated 20 years of service last year.
