DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. —NFL Hall of Famer Ed Reed responded to the fallout involving him and Bethune-Cookman University.
Reed and BCU’s president spoke on Monday with host Roland Martin on his show “#RolandMartinUnfiltered.” The interview happened hours after athletes and students protested in favor of reinstating Reed as the head football coach.

Last weekend, Reed announced Bethune-Cookman decided against ratifying his contract as negotiations broke down with his legal team.
“I cry for those kids, man. I hurt for them kids because it’s wrong. I have eight kids who committed the week before. These kids calling me, their parents calling me. What are we going to do? I can’t get these kids into school. I can’t have these kids uncommit and go somewhere else,” Reed said on Martin’s show. “You’re telling me I’m withdrawing? No, I’m not withdrawing. I still want to coach here and coach these kids.”
BCU announced Reed as head coach in December.
