Dreamers Confront VP Biden Over Deportations

Vice President Biden

Detroit, MI—At this year’s Netroots Nation conference, Dreamers and other immigrant rights activists are shining the spotlight on our country’s inhumane immigration system, highlighting the millions of families torn apart by the deportations under this current Administration.

After chanting “stop deporting our families,” DREAMers were quickly escorted out before confronting keynote speaker to the opening of the conference, Vice President Joe Biden.

Said Felipe Sousa-Rodriguez, Deputy Managing Director of United We Dream, in response to today’s developments: “Vice President Biden, you and the President have told us you share the same dreams we do of living, working, and being a part of this great country. Yet why do you continue to deport our parents?

“The President has publicly committed to give immediate relief for our families. We urge you to ‘GO BIG’ and stop the deportations that are tearing apart our families right away. Every day, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and other Republicans are lining up and calling for the quick deportation of Dreamers, children who have fled violence and conflict in their home countries, and hardworking immigrant families who have strong ties to this country. Now the question is, what will you do to protect the most number of people as possible?”

As DREAMers were escorted out, Vice President committed that he and the President would not allow politics to get in the way and would do everything in their power since House Republicans blocked bipartisan immigration reform this year.
