Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz released the following statement one year after the first COVID-19 death was recorded in the Bronx:

“On this somber day, as we mark one year since the first reported death from COVID-19 in our city, we pause to remember the thousands of Bronxites and New Yorkers we lost due to this horrific virus.

“The New Yorkers we lost are more than just a statistic; each and every single one of them has a story to tell and their memories will live on.

“While we have seen some of the ugliest and darkest times during this pandemic, we have also seen tremendous fortitude, compassion and creativity in The Bronx. We must never forget the lives of loved ones taken from us too soon, but I am hopeful that brighter days are ahead and together we will build a stronger Bronx and New York City,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.
