We’re thrilled to announce the global release of our documentary “Crossing the Darién: A Black Perspective on the Migration Crisis in the Darién Gap.” The film will be shown at the Liberación Film Festival in Brooklyn, NY on October 8. Get festival details here and register here.

This powerful film chronicles a delegation of activists, human rights defenders, and jurists from the United States to Panama in October 2024, broadening political analysis and contributing to the mitigation of one of the greatest humanitarian crises in the region one exacerbated by structural racism and gender-based violence.
Thanks to the collaboration of social organizations and government entities in Panama, we’ve created an impressive portrait of the transcontinental migration of African, Black, and Afro-descendant people in the Americas.
Directed by renowned Afro-Panamanian filmmaker Xóchil Vergara, accompanied by a talented group of audiovisual producers from Colombia and Panama, Crossing the Darién is a powerful exploration of migration as a human right.

The film centers voices often silenced in official discourse, including Aneiry Zapata a Honduran Garifuna woman championing the struggle of Black LGBTIQA+ migrants. Her testimony highlights the critical need for an intersectional approach to migration justice.
This documentary dismantles hegemonic narratives about blackness and strengthens transnational solidarity for racial, gender, and migration justice.
