Connecting For Excellence: International Women’s Day Awards Gala

On March 7, 2014, the Global Connection For Women will host the International Women’s Day Awards Gala at the Harvard Club located in New York City.

This event celebrates the social, political and economic achievements of women, while focusing the world’s attention on areas requiring further action. This group of distinguished and accomplished women leaders will be honored for their commitment to women and youth empowerment and leadership.

Honorees include: Nobel Peace Laureate Leymah Gbowee (CEO of Gbowee Peace Foundation), Jenna Fernandes (CEO of CareBooker.com), H.E. Ambassador Joy U Ogwu (Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations), H.E. Ngozi Okonjo‐Iweala (Minister of Finance for the Federal Republic of Nigeria), H.E. Hajiya Zainab Maina (Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development of the Federal Republic of Nigeria),Dr. Ngozi Olejeme (Delta State Gubenerial Aspirant), Chief Temitope Ajayi (Mama Diaspora & Ambassador of Goodwill for Arkansas & Maryland), Teresa Clarke (CEO of Africa.com), Dr. Urvashi Sahni (Founder & CEO of Study Hall Educational foundation), Denise Williams (Founder & CEO of Workingmomin20s),Sarah Pavlov (President of International Women in Business (IWIB), among others.

“By recognizing these distinguished women leaders on such a momentous occasion as International Women’s Day, GC4W foundation hope to not only bring attention to the key contributions these women are making to communities around the world – but also unearth that there exists ample opportunity for better advancements and equality for women,” said Lilian Ajayi, the Founder and CEO of Global Connections for Women.

Committed to empowering 100 thousand women by 2015, GC4W will be using proceeds from the event on a new school project for the City of Karamajiji in Abuja.

The GC4W International Women’s Gala is brought together in partnership with Waldorf Astoria, RUWESS Nigeria, Arik Air, Black Speech Media Group, Goodluck Support Group, Ministry of Environment, Nigeria, First Bank, Harvard Club of New York City, NAAEP Ltd, Federal Mortgage Bank – just to name a few. The event’s media sponsors include, CBS New York, AOL Travel, Africa.com, Applause Africa and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). There will be special performances by Grammy Award Winning Artist Paula Cole and Sibombo Women Cultural Dancers.

Established in 2012, the Global Connections for Women foundation was created in direct response to the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and established to support women and youth in underserved communities across the globe.
