WASHINGTON, D.C. – Thursday, U.S. Congressman Kweisi Mfume (MD-07) issued the following statement on the passing of Joe Madison, “The Black Eagle,” who was a longtime radio host on SiriusXM, both a human and civil rights activist, and a dear friend OF Mfume.
“Like so many others, I am deeply saddened to learn that Joe Madison, ‘The Black Eagle,’ has passed. Joe’s voice was a commanding one. His words that travelled across the airwaves for so many years challenged the status quo in his battle for justice and dignity.
“Joe was also a dear friend and for many years a leading light at the NAACP, the organization that birthed him and instilled in him his passion for justice and equality. Joe’s life was one that personified the strength, resilience, and courage of our sojourn in America.
“I had the opportunity to know, fight alongside with, laugh with and speak with this incredible and insightful man. My thoughts and prayers are with his beloved wife Sherry and the entire Madison family. God rest his soul,” said Congressman Mfume.
