On Saturday, February 22, 2020, starting at 12: PM, the Congressional Black Caucus Institute (CBCI) will announce a scholarship to honor Rev. Clementa C. Pinckney.
The former State Senator and senior pastor at Mother Emanuel AME Church who was killed with eight others in a racially motivated massacre in 2015. The CBCI seeks to continue his legacy of excitement and enthusiasm for political activism and empowerment by funding a scholarship to our political boot camp training for future leaders in his honor.
Among those who will be in attendance for the announcement will be: Congressional Black Caucus Institute Executive Director Vanessa Griddine-Jones Mother Emanuel AME Pastor Eric S.C. Manning, South Carolina Congressman James E. Clyburn, Mississippi Congressman Bennie G. Thompson, and other members of the Congressional Black Caucus Institute Board. The announcement will take place at Mother Emanuel AME Church, 110 Calhoun Street – Mother Emanuel Way Memorial District in Charleston, South Carolina.
The CBCI will make the official announcement at a press conference during the Advocacy and Campaign Training workshop being held at Mother Emanuel AME Church ahead of the Democratic Presidential Debate and Primary in Charleston, SC. Leadership from the CBCI and Mother Emanuel AME Church will provide details about the fellowship as well as answer questions from media during Saturday’s press conference.
