Confirming DeVos is Auctioning Education to highest bidder

DeVos — guns kill grizzlies

[Commentary]

Betsy DeVos is utterly ill-suited and unqualified to serve as Secretary of Education. In her confirmation hearings, she showed her complete lack of preparation and understanding of our nation’s education system – including stunning ignorance of the landmark Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

In addition, given the vast sums of money her family has given to Republican causes over the years, her nomination reeks of cronyism. DeVos has dedicated her career to dismantling public education.

More than 50 million American students attend K-12 public schools and millions more rely on federal student loan programs. This nomination represents a clear danger to the right to public education, especially for our most vulnerable.

These students deserve better than a Department of Education auctioned off to the highest bidder. A vote for Betsy DeVos is a vote to privatize our education system and undercut our public schools.

I urge my colleagues in the Senate to reject this nomination.
