Director Berger’s adaptation of the 2016 novel is sometimes a zippy slip. The film seems like a subtle drama at times, but it also seems like a slow-paced- ridiculous drama revolving around the election of a new pope. Cardinal Lawrence handles the election process, and what follows is a suspenseful yet ridiculous drama with a consistent tone.

The movie seems like an average drama revolving around the hungry opportunist’s internal politics, but Director Berger constantly tries to elevate the average drama to the prestige-minded, suspenseful drama. However, Fiennes, the film’s protagonist, seems to understand the assignment very well and has won the critics and the audience from the film’s first shot.

The film will be streaming in cinemas starting on 25 October 2024.
