As part of his 2025 North American tour, “A Royal Evening with Dr. Zahi Hawass: New Secrets of Ancient Egypt – Groundbreaking Discoveries” Hawass (pictured below) has visited several U.S. cities and plans to visit several more here and in Canada – 33 cities in total. We find Hawass to be problematic.

On July 19, 2025 from 4 to 6 pm we will gather in front of Jacob Javits Center to tell Dr. Hawass clearly that it is time to tell the truth about ancient Egypt/Kemet. Members of our community have and will continue to “greet” Hawass at various lecture sites until he ceases to spread disinformation which deceives the public and fosters racist notions and a false sense of superiority. His brand of intellectual warfare was originally created by European and American scholars to justify the wholesale enslavement and colonization of African and other indigenous peoples by obscuring their/our true historical and cultural accomplishments. Today people like Hawass, in positions of authority at international academic and cultural institutions, continue this deceitful practice that should have ended decades ago.
Attending his lecture, you will hear for yourself the same disinformation that Hawass promulgated in his former role as Egyptian Minister of Antiquities, and Director of Excavations at Giza, Saqqara, Bahariya Oasis, and the Valley of the Kings. Hawass is now, as he was then, a lead propagator of the claim that Egypt/Kemet was not an African civilization and had no relation whatsoever to any cultures of sub-Saharan Africa. Even though he was removed from his position during the Arab Spring, Hawass continues to misinform the public through disingenuous scholarship, which focuses on highlighting late New Kingdom or intermediary period subjects and artifacts, and 3D misrepresentations created by racially biased scientists. His work continues in the absurd tradition of Charles Seligman[1], an ethnologist who claimed the Egyptians were brown skinned whites.
We know through modern scholarship, historical documentation and empirical evidence (i.e. physical artifacts) that this is an outright lie and intellectual dishonesty at its height. Most modern museums have begun to tell the truth of the matter. In recent years the Metropolitan Museum of Art, acknowledging the groundbreaking work of Senegalese scholar, Dr. Cheikh Anta Diop held an exhibit “The African Origin of Civilization.” On its website the Met states:
“Scholars today recognize Africa as the source of our common ancestry. But in 1974, Senegalese scholar and humanist Cheikh Anta Diop shocked and challenged historians by asserting the influence of ancient African civilizations in his groundbreaking book The African Origin of Civilization: Myth or Reality”[2]
As part of its’ exhibit, the Met began a wholesale reevaluation of its collections. It placed Egyptian artifacts, which had been in a wholly separate wing from other African artifacts (as was the racist practice in museums around the world, to distance Egypt from the rest of Africa, particularly sub-Saharan Africa) side by side with other African cultural artifacts which shared themes that are common throughout all of Africa – the necessity of complementary dualism between male and female, anthropomorphism, i.e. the acknowledgement of Divine attributes via use of animals, etc. By doing so, it allowed visitors to begin an honest comparison and reassessment of their own prior beliefs and information as to whether Egypt is indeed an African civilization. In its stated plans, the museum will continue further by renovating the Michael C. Rockefeller wing to reflect the truth it is now acknowledging to the world – EGYPT IS AN AFRICAN CIVILIZATION. Many other institutions around the world are doing the same, but Hawass remains a stalwart of the old lies…

WE ARE HERE TODAY TO TELL HIM “STOP LYING!”
His dishonesty not only reflects poorly on the past which he proclaims to be teaching about, it also exacerbates the problems of contemporary Egypt. This is exemplified by the conditions of its indigenous Nubian/Kushite population. The Nubians today are in what can only be described as a modern-day Apartheid. They have no political power, and no elected representation in the Egyptian government. Worse, though the economy of modern Egypt makes over $15.3 billion dollars in tourism, drawing over 15.8 million visitors to see its treasures[3], the Nubian population is not allowed to partake in the boon. They find themselves beggars in a society built on the relics of their own Ancestors. Hawass and his cronies have done everything they can to obscure the facts on the ground and keep the Nubian issue from the public.
