Bronx, NY — On Saturday, Pierina Sanchez (above middle) was joined by some of her many supporters, including US Rep. Adriano Espaillat, US Rep. Ritchie Torres, NYS Sen. Jamaal Bailey, Brendan Griffith Chief of Staff at the NYC Central Labor Council – which represents over 1.1 million workers, neighbors, community leaders and activists including Chef Geneva Wilson, K Born Rivers, Vivian Ortiz, George Ganley and Tony Edwards, in opening the Campaign Headquarters for her Council District 14 City Council Campaign.

This event, held on a chilly and rainy spring day, is the latest display of her campaign’s momentum, which boasts a broad, Bronx-based, worker-centered coalition of endorsers including Congressmembers Espaillat and Torres, state and local electeds, major unions, and community organizations.

“I am running to uplift the Bronx community that raised me and has given me so much. My family came from the Dominican Republic in search of a better life and we found it here in the district. Learning in our schools, playing in our streets, and studying in our libraries transformed my life,” said Pierina Sanchez. “At this critical time of recovery, our community needs a leader who will fight and win meaningful investments for our families and seniors, enable our children to thrive after such a difficult year, and bring more affordable homes and good jobs to our community, so everyone has a chance to thrive. It is past due that our community sees our dignity reflected in our outcomes.”

“There is no greater example of what is possible, of how far we can go and how high we can rise, than my friend Pierina Sanchez,” said US Rep. Ritchie Torres. “She never forgets where she came from. The Bronx is core to who she is as a public servant, and it will be core to who she is as a City Councilwoman. No one will fight more vigorously for our community to remain intact than Pierina.”

“When I first met Pierina, when I learned of her background, when I saw her experiences and accomplishments, I knew she was the one. When I met her family, and I knocked on doors with her and everyone knew her already — I knew she was the one. It’s very important that you’re here today, to share this special moment with Pierina in the opening of her office,” said US Rep. Adriano Espaillat. “This is an important race in the city of New York, this community has been hard hit, and we need leaders like Pierina to aid in the recovery.”

“If my daughters became like Pierina Sanchez, I’d be a very happy father,” said NYS Senator Jamaal T. Bailey. “It’s about not just tomorrow, but the days thereafter. So, before you go into the voting booth on June 22, first thing you’re going to do is tell a friend to tell a friend, you’re going to tell them who to vote for, and it’s going to be Pierina Sanchez.”

The office, located in the heart of District 14 on Jerome Avenue, will house the daily operations for Sanchez’s ground operations and welcome the growing number of volunteers joining the campaign.
