California DOJ Investigating Police Shooting On Amtrak Train

OAKLAND – California Attorney General Rob Bonta Tuesday announced that the California Department of Justice (DOJ), pursuant to Assembly Bill 1506 (AB 1506), is investigating and will independently review an officer-involved shooting (OIS) that occurred in Mt. Shasta, California on Monday, December 25, 2023, at approximately 12:30 a.m. The OIS incident resulted in injury of one individual and the death of one individual. 

Following notification by local authorities, DOJ’s California Police Shooting Investigation Team initiated an investigation in accordance with AB 1506 mandates. Upon completion of the investigation, it will be turned over to DOJ’s Special Prosecutions Section within the Criminal Law Division for independent review.

Editor’s Note: This police shooting reportedly took place on an Amtrak train–and the victim was said to possibly be a homeless man. He was apparently Tased before being shot.
