Stuart Cinema & Café, along with Filmmaker, Lawrence “LAW” Watford, will host a special screening of Catharsis, a short film about an African-American woman mourning the death of her child at the hands of an NYPD officer and confronts the ambitious District Attorney who refused to bring charges against the officer.
The movie, shot on location in Brooklyn, showcases what the future looks like when Black and Brown Americans have grown weary of marches, rallies and protests while systemic racist policing policies endure.

“In an era where police killings of black people earn 10 million YouTube views, this film is about jolting people out of their comfort zone, out of their bubble and into unfamiliar, uneasy and perhaps frightening territory,” said Watford.
“I want to start a war between the person we are and the person we want to be. And in the chaos of that internal conflict is where I hope the message of this movie will have the power to at least shift the mindset, even in the slightest degree for the shortest of moments.”
The free, special film preview will be held on Saturday, December 5 at 4 pm at the Stuart Cinema & Café. The theater is CinemaSafe certified and has been safely hosting film festivals and private events. As part of its Covid-19 compliance standards, the emails or phone numbers of attendees will be collected as a precaution for contact tracing purposes (if necessary).
A Question & Answer session with the filmmaker will take place post screening. Guests can reserve seating here: https://www.divinewritepictures.com/catharsis
