Brooklyn, NY/May 13, 2024 —BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) today announced a lineup change for DanceAfrica 2024: The Origin of Communities / A Calabash of Cultures Opera House performances, May 24—27. Regrettably, Cie La Calebasse will no longer perform due to unforeseen circumstances.

As an exciting addition to DanceAfrica 2024, BAM is excited to welcome Siren – Protectors of the Rainforest, a dynamic and captivating dance ensemble, to the lineup as guest company. Led by Cameroonian-born Mafor Mambo Tse, the Brooklyn-based company complements this year’s theme, expanding its exploration of Cameroonian cultural practices, and highlighting the interconnectedness of dance, music, and the ancient foundations of human culture.

The Opera House performance also includes the DanceAfrica Spirit Walkers and The Billie’s Youth Arts Academy Dance Ensemble, enriched by the intricate sounds of the Women Of The Calabash. The festival will also include dance classes, film screenings, an art installation, the beloved DanceAfrica bazaar, and more cultural events.
