New York, NY — The following statement was released by New York City Council Members Crystal Hudson and Althea Stevens–who state they recently receiving threats of violence against their lives.
“On Tuesday afternoon, our offices received emails from the same individual threatening violence and calling for our lives on account of our beliefs and hard work on behalf of all New Yorkers.
“As Black women, we know all too well that standing up for what is right has never come easy. And in today’s political climate, simply doing our job as elected officials—particularly with progressive values that prioritize the needs of marginalized communities—poses a threat.
“We are not the first to be threatened, and we will not be the last. We stand firmly in opposition to all forms of violence and will remain steadfast in fighting for justice and equity with love and compassion in service to our communities.“
