For the 2nd year in a row, DJ’s from all across the globe were honored at the 2013 Global Spin Awards, held at the New York Times Center in New York City, on Monday.

Hip-Hop royalty was definitely in the building to show their support. The legendary Red Alert, Funkmaster Flex, Swizz Beats, DMC, Busta Rhymes and Kenrick Lamar were among those in attendance.

Hosted by Sway Calloway of MTV News, 25 awards were presented to various Disc Jockeys by a host of celebs such as Tank, Elle Varner, Joe Buddens, Sean Paul and Power Moves Inc./Bad Boy Exec Shawn Prez.  A live mix by DJ D Nice, DJ Grand Wizard Theodore and DJ Scratch paid homage to fallen DJ’s, including DJ Scott LeRock and Jam Master Jay.

Kid Capri received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his long-time contribution to Hip-Hop and the evolution of the Mix-Tape. The biggest award of the evening, Legendary DJ Award, was presented to Marley Marl, who single-handedly changed the sound of Rap and Hip-Hop music and paved the way for DJ’s such as Pete Rock and Premier to segue into producing.

He was honored with a special performance by Roxanne Shante, DJ Polo, Master Ace, Craig G and Big Daddy Kane. This ended an awesome evening of cutting, scratching, transforming and most importantly, great appreciation for the backbone of Rap & Hip-Hop music–the DJ.
