Adem Bunkeddeko, Democrat running for Congress in NY-9, has issued the following statement on the passing of Dr. Roy Hastick, founder of the Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CACCI).
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Hastick and my thoughts are with his family during this difficult time. The coronavirus pandemic is causing great harm to communities of color, and each loss is heartbreaking for all of us. Dr. Hastick was a pillar in our community and a mentor to so many. His leadership and guidance helped countless businesses thrive here in Brooklyn and across New York. Dr. Hastick embodied the American dream – to work hard, celebrate our diversity, and through our successes, lift others up. We will miss him tremendously, and his legacy will be carried on by the hundreds of people he inspired and in the businesses that continue to shape our community.”
Adem Bunkeddeko is an organizer and advocate in Central Brooklyn running for Congress in NY-9. He previously challenged incumbent Yvette Clarke in 2018, losing by less than two thousand votes. Through a career in public service, Bunkeddeko has tried to pay forward the sacrifices his family made to flee civil war in Uganda to start a life in America. He previously served on Brooklyn Community Board #8 where the people of his neighborhood have been turning for help because their elected representatives have neglected the affordable housing crisis.
